Metal Fuel Flap

So my car just started throwing a CEL. I tracked it down and figured out that the metal flap that opens/closes when you pump fuel won't stay closed.

Checked with the dealer and part would be about $400 special order. Anyone else experience this issue with the fuel flap not closing all the way?

I was also thinking that maybe it could be an issue with my gas cap? I checked the gas cap when the CEL first came on and it didn't seem loose. I have filled up twice since the light came and the CEL still exists.

Thoughts?

You may want to read thru this. Apparently there is a differently designed gas cap and this is also a pretty common problem. I had my mz3 from 56K to 80K and never saw it and I have put 25K on my 2012 ms3 and still nothing
