Intake modification?

I saw another thread on here about an intake but it didn't answer my question (was taught to search before asking.) So here. The intake at autozone I bought doesn't fit my protege. No one has them for sale here. I really would like to order one online but can't (16, can't have paypal parents don't like that crap.) So here is my plan I've seen it done before. Just wondering if it's good. I have the sensor mount (autozone) 3 inch diameter. Then I'm going to clamp it on the existing 2 5/8 diameter intake pipe. Then put my filter one there. Here is the pics so you understand.

Any increase in flow will be offset by the fact that you're pulling in 140+f engine bay air. the stock intake with the snorkel above the radiator pulls cold air from the high pressure zone in front of the radiator. even a good CAI kit won't be noticeable except at mid to high rpm WOT. Hence why the K&N drop in would be better.
