Hks turbo timer install

I have a couple quick questions...

1. In the hks manual it says if i dont install the ebrake sensor wire, the turbo timer will not work. Is this true or is it a safety plea?

2. I'm going to take a picture of the turbo timer's wires and hopefully you guys can tell me what they're for.

you have a type 0 there. in the harness:
red: +12
Blue: ACC
Green: Ignition

then grey goes to e-brake,
brown goes to RPM signal
black is ground.
I just got one used, the e-brake was just tied to the ground. I took it apart and wired it properly, so i don't know if it works. multimetering my MSP looked like when the e-brake was down it was +12v. if its not connected correctly, it won't count down, and worse, someone could smash your window and have a much easier time driving off with your car.
