Our 21 Sig AC works fine in Virginia where it can be hot and humid, but not nearly as bad as further south.
This is just an impression, but in the early to mid 90's they changed refrigerants due to CFCs causing ozone depletion. We did notice one of our new cars with the newer refrigerant did not work as well as the old car with the ozone depleting CFCs when idling. Once the new car was moving and more air was being pushed through the heat exchanger/condensor, the AC worked much better.
We have not noticed any issues with any of our newer cars, >2010
