Check Engine Light?

I have a 2006 Mazda 6i 4cyl with about 72k miles on it. I've had a few little issues with the ECU needing to be reset for windows not rolling up and funky transmission shifting in the past. Today though, for the first time since I bought it new (3/06), the check engine light came on. Any ideas?

Either take the vehicle to the dealer. Or go to pep boys and get them to pull the code.

Could be as simple as a loose gas cap.

Check engine lights could come on for a few hundred different reasons.

I checked the cap and it was VERY loose. Tightened it back up and the light is still on. I talked to my mechanic today and he said it may go out in a couple hundred miles after the computer resets or it may need to be reset (the memory or whatever).

a quicker way to see if that was the problem would be to just disconnect the negative battery terminal, tap the brake a few times and reconnect. that will clear it for you. or you could go get it scanned at pep boys and see what code pops up.
