Just curious, what's the price difference between a GS with aircon, auto tranny and comfort package and a GT with auto tranny?

Hi,

I do not wish to bust any bubbles, but.... I am REALLY curious.

The title says : Canadian Mazda5 Changes for 2010

I have a 2009 GS. I do not see any changes for 2010 when reading the description...

Can you explain the differences between 2009 and 2010?

Fair comment, I changed the title a bit

Canadian members might chime in but I see that for 2010 at least the GS gets TCS and DSC as part of the comfort package. GT should get it standard, although it does not mention it at all (scratch).

Note I took it from the Mazda CA site (silly)

Howcum them guys still get the GT manual, and we don't? Not fair, IMHO. If I had the choice, I would have gone with one of those.

Canadian GT is different from the US Grand Touring, but worth noting the 5MT option however

For 2007 (and some lucky ones in 2008) you were able to get a US Touring with Manual Tranny, but that was pretty much it.

When I talked to a dealer shortly before the 2010's arrived he pulled out a sheet from Mazda that indicated that basically the main difference between the 2009 and the 2010 was the inclusion of the DSC & TCS in the comfort package in the 2010. It also stated that everything in the comfort package would be standard on the GT.

Our GT is basically the US Touring. The US Grand Touring is our GT plus the Luxury and NAVI Packages but no HIDs in Canada. :( On the plus side we can GT plus the two packages with just a manual transmission. :)

Thank you.

Pardon my lack of knowledge, but what is TCS and DCS?

I would bet it's a sales figure thing...

I got an interesting rebate because I did not want AC and/or automatic tranny on a Canadian GS.

As for having the manual tranny for USA GT's, if push comes to shove, why not import one from Canada? Some of us have done that on other models that were not up to speed here compared to the USA.

Thank you for the explanations.

Would I like to have that on my car? Hmmm!!!!! I HAVE to think about it.

To buy these options - does that mean that it would be a better and safer driver or that it is another reason given to me to drive like a complete idiot?

Not buying these options - does that mean that in emergency stops I would systematically loose control of the car or do I think that they are not necessary because I am a darn good driver?

Either way, just slowing down, keeping your distances and knowing your environment ALL the time reduces accidents, repair bills and gas usage. I know - I know - we do not control other drivers...

What does the TCS ans DCS on my car do for other drivers on the road?

(Don't mind me, this is just another way of seeing things...)

I live (and grew up) in a snowy environment. I learned to control a sliding, slipping, skidding car with and without winter tires.

I do not know if these are the right terms - I mostly speak French.
It all comes down to one thing, the strength of the movement (all directions) on the 4 pieces of rubber touching the ground.

Slow down = less weight of the movement = more control of the vehicle.

You can disable both, right?

The Mazda 5 is the first vehicle I owned that has ABS brakes and so far I don't like it. I've always found threshold braking to be the best method to brake on slippery surfaces and the ABS kicks in way too early for me to threshold brake. How do I disable ABS?

When my cousin's pathfinder had an abs failure, i.e. wires going to wheel sensors were severed, the vehicle still worked ok but --- without abs ----.

I believe the TCS and DSC benefits come down to statistics and peace of mind. The statistics indicate that # of serious accidents goes down with cars equipped with them (especially DSC). Peace of mind as it is always good to have that extra protection in case you make a mistake, albeit zoom-zoom driving seems to be affected.

Yeah, I don't believe I need any really, but it is just some of us, yet if that was a showstopper for people to chose one, then good for Mazda. For 2011 it will be mandatory in all new vehicles in the US if I'm not mistaken.

I've driven the Mazda3 and the Mazda6 often, so the TCS can be turned off from the cockpit, ABS and DSC, nope, tricks might be needed (shocked)
