Anyone try installing Infinity Reference 6030cs 6.5-Inch 270-Watt Two-Way Component?

2006 Mazda 6 - auto
Hi,

I'm thinking about getting these https://www.amazon.com/dp/ (commissions earned)

I know I have to make/buy an adapter plate, but is the depth ok - will they fit w/o hitting the glass and still have the panel fit over?

Also, has anyone had any luck with those cheap chinese double-dins on Ebay, or the cheap Boss double din units on Amazon - I know there is a risk, but the price is like 1/2 a name brand.

This is for a 2005 Mazda 5 (1st gen)

Thanks

...fit 6.5's in the 5x7 space with an adapter? Anybody know if 6.5s would fit in the rear- where space/glass might be less of a factor?

yeah, nice...

This http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?123629472-How-To-Installing-different-sized-speakers-in-your-car is a desription of someone putting 6.5" in a Mazda, but it's a different brand.

...and I have the skills, but not the time or desire to complete the project like that...gots to "choose your battles" so to speak....

Have a look at post 6. I would say there is more than enough space for a not only 6.5 in the stock rear but even mid drivers. I think there may even be enough space to squeeze in a 8" free air sub in that opening or to hid an amp. Lots of space.

One of my ideas is to replace the factory rear speakers with 8"/10" free air subs (if they fit) and move the reaer speakers into the sliding doors. The whole debate that audio projects and our ears are forward facing and bass is not.

I'd go the easy route as well, unless you absolutely need the added depth.

I agree, except I'm not sure if the speakers will hit the window with the store bought adapters and I don't want to waste $ if someone has already tried these speakers and found out what works.

I guess I'll be the guinea pig if no-one has tried them.

No need to be a guinea pig. Why not just pop open the door panel, lower the window, and stick a measuring tap in to get a depth measurement? Could use this time to plan/build a mount for the crossover.

Well, I bought the infinity 6.5" speakers & installed them - plenty of room - used the mounting rings that came with them. I'll post some pics once I have more time.
