My 2012 Cx-9 Non-Bose doesn't have bluetooth audio. It only supports bluetooth phone calls. So I replaced my OEM stereo with Pioneer Nex 5100 .

I did not buy stuff from crutchfield. I used amazon and ebay combination to get stuff cheaply.

1. Nex 5100. ( Cost $494 : no tax and free shipping) https://www.amazon.com/dp/ (commissions earned)
2. PIONEER Double pulse / Triple pulse VIDEO BYPASS PARKING BRAKE BYPASS all AVH ( Cost $8.5 : no tax and free shipping) https://www.ebay.com (commissions earned)
3. Metra 99-7516B Single DIN/Double DIN Installation Dash Kit ( Cost $22 : no tax and free shipping) https://www.amazon.com/dp/ (commissions earned)
4. Rerii 1 Meter 3ft 3.5mm & USB AUX Extension Dash Flush Panel Mount Cable ( Cost $13 : no tax and free shipping)
https://www.amazon.com/dp/ (commissions earned)
5. PAC RP4-MZ11 ( Cost $92 : no tax and free shipping) https://www.amazon.com/dp/ (commissions earned)
6. Rear view camera ( Cost $20 : no tax and free shipping)
https://www.amazon.com/dp/ (commissions earned)
7. Wireless Camera Video Transmitter and Receiver for Car Rear View Camera https://www.amazon.com/dp/ (commissions earned)

Steps -
step a) First remove the OEM cd/dvd player. See this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjwG14GGcFg
step b) Then using below cable combination, connect PAC RP4 MZ11 to Pioneer 5100 nex -

Pioneer Harness >>> Pac RP4 MZ11 Harness
---------------------------------------
Yellow - Connect to constant 12V supply >>> Yellow - Battery +12v
Black - Ground >>> Black - Ground
Orange/White - Connect to lighting switch terminal >>> Orange/White - Illumination Output
Red - Connect to terminal controlled by ignition switch (12VDC) >>> Red Accessory Output
Light Green - Parking Brake >>> Red/White - Parking Brake Output OR parking brake bypass
Blue/White - System Remote Control >>> Blue/White - Amp Turn on Input OR to aftermarket amp OR UNUSED if head unit powering speakers
Violet/White - Reverse Gear Signal Input >>> Green - Reverse Output
UNUSED Pioneer Harness Yellow/Black - Mute (used when muting of an external accessory required)
UNUSED Pac Harness Blue - Antenna on input (used for certain powered antenna applications)
UNUSED Pac Harness Purple/White - Vehicle Speed Output (Used for certain nav applications)

Very important Note - PAC RP4-MZ11 has RCA cables to receive audio from Pioneer nex 5100. Also, nex 5100 has rca audio cables to output audio. DO NOT USE these RCA cables from pioneer to connect to pac rp4-mz11. If you use these cables for audio then volume is extremely low even with full audio setting. Solution to this problem is - a) Either you have to use 3 power amplifiers ( 1 for front spears, 1 for rear and 1 for subwoofer - which will be additional cost) OR b) Cut the rca jackes from audio wires of PAC RP4-MZ11 ( as shown in attached screenshots ) and connect those to NEX 5100 connector ( also shown in attached screenshot) . Keep nex 5100 RCA audio output cables unused.

So basically -
white/black >>> white/black
white >>> white
grey/black >>> grey/black
grey >>> grey
violet/black >>> violet/black
violet >>> violet
green/black >>> green/black
green >>> green

step c) Install the rear view camera using the wireless transmitter/receiver. The wireless transmitter only costs $11 but avoids headache of phishing wire till tail gate.

step d) I installed GPS antenna under the cd/dvd wrapper. See below pics to understand - what I mean :

That's all. See the final stage !!!

Wow, you are da man kulkarnipb, lots of good information here, much appreciated for the hard work, thanks for posting. I'll be referring to your post when I upgrade.

One question, how did you connect the parking brake bypass? I see three wires on the parking brake bypass and one parking brake wire from Pioneer harness.

Also, do you know if this will work with the Bose system? Doesn't the Bose system have an amplifier in the trunk.

Bypass has 3 wires - blue, green and black.
Black is for ground, which goes with pac and nex black ground cables. All 3 soldered together.
Blue goes to nex blue/white and pac blue/white. All 3 soldered together.
Green goes to nex light green ( very long cable which you can cut short ) only. Note - Green is the only cable not attached to pac anywhere.

Mine is non-bose system.
If I'm not wrong, for bose you should go for rca cables alike the way I cut those jacks. The pinoeer install manual has a separate page - how to wave in power amplifiers. This page shows rca cables attached to power amplifiers. Do not take my words granted since I have no idea how bose system is configured. Also, while reading manual for pac mz11, I do remember - somewhere there is little different configuration for boss systems, but since mine is non-bose, I ignored it completely. Sorry !!

will the BT handsfree connect still work with your cell phone? I'm hesitant to upgrade to aftermarket because I prefer the stock BT handsfree feature.

Pioneer BT handsfree works fine. No issues.
In fact Mazda BT is still there and it wants to pair with my phone but I did not try using it now.
You can go ahead with upgrade, pinoeer BT handsfree calling works smoothly.
