2001 Protege does not start

Hi Folks,

I'm new to this forum but after reading some of the previous posts I know you guys will have an answer for me. I was just given a 2001 Protg ES which had been sitting in outside storage for 5 years. The car has a new battery and cranks well. There is oil pressure. I have filled the tank with fresh gas, replaced the coils and MAF sensor which were in poor condition. I have also removed the fuel injectors, soaked them in cleaner and re-installed. The car has spark, and the fuel pump runs with fuel to the injectors.
It seems like it wants to start and will and will occasionally kick on one cylinder. It has also backfired out the intake a couple of times.

I'm not sure but I think I may have intake valves stuck open. Any comments or help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Ken

Have you checked the timing belt? Was the car running fine prior to being stored?

Take off the valve cover and see if the timing belt is rotating when you crank it. Then make sure the timing marks all align .
