2001 Mazda Protege
So a couple of days ago, I turned on my car and when I was reversing out of my parking spot, my car lost power and the temperature gauge shot up. I checked the coolant, it was fine. There was no smoke coming from the engine. I let it sit for a while because I thought it had overheated. I tried to start it but it would only turn over and the gauge was stuck on high even with the engine being obviously cold. I had a family mechanic come out, he said it wasn't an engine problem but an electrical one. The car wasn't getting a spark We checked the O2 sensors, all fine. Cleaned the battery terminals and made sure the wires were grounded. All the fuses were fine and we replaced the ECU and still nothing. Could it be a bad thermostat or something else telling the car it's overheated so it won't start? I'm just so lost right now
