2000 mazda protege motor swap

Hey guys and girls I'm brand new to mazda I bought a 2000 protoge with a 1.8l manual trans off a buddy who seized it up for 500.00
I'm looking for a motor to replace it and read a couple different things about certain motors being direct swaps? I don't know any engine codes so that will be like reading a foreign language I do have a decent level of knowledge on cars and swap the motor my self . Any help is apprecited

I think you can swap in the 2.0 FSDE that's in any protege, p5 or msp protege. You'll need the wiring harness and the ecu though.
