I have a 2002 Mazda Protege LX we replaced the rear struts after the strut mount broke and the strut pushed through it into the seat belt retractor. We put new struts on and the right rear strut has just done the same thing again. I called Mazda and they said I needed to order some cans to stop the strut from pushing through the plate. The struts I purchased were not factory Mazda's they were Gabriel Ultras. I'm going to pick up the cans after I type this but I'm not sure if they will fit they are on my other 01 Protege with KYB shocks so I'm assuming they will? where did the cans on my 02 go? Hmmmmm? Very little information on this out there. I realize there are racing setups that bypasses this issue but I keep my cars OEM. Anybody out there have any positives suggestions. I don't know if these cans will fit every non Mazda strut?
