Oil changes

Rather then have 1 thread cover numerous questions, I'll start a new one.
Since I never questioned the oil that was put in my previous cars, other then regular or synthetic, how can I make sure my new car is getting the best oil possible? Should I do my own oil changes? Or request a specific brand?
I just want to help this car last for as many miles as possible!

Don't forget to read the owners manual. There is a lot of good information in there that could possibly answer a lot of your questions.

Following this one piece of advice would reduce questions on this site by at least 20%!!

Difficult to believe that a true vehicle person doesn't read and re-read the owners manual until almost memorized. Ed

Motul 5w30 or shell rotella 5w40
