The CX-5 LED Lighting Thread

I figured I'd start a thread to collect all LED info since there are a few different threads with pages to dig through and not so thorough information.

I am going to use VLED's website as reference to what bulbs fit. Of course I have no association with them. Only using them as they have a very nice collection and very informative on their products.

Exterior:

DRL FOR TECH PACK ONLY: P13W size bulbs. A somewhat rare bulb size. There are only a few different types of these LED's with different SMD (surface mount diode) arrangements and CREE's from VLED.

Note, non-tech are 9005 as they are dual mode DRL and high beam.

Fog lights: H11. Though most would just go for HID's. There is a metal shield that limits allowable depth for HID's and long LED's. One can simply use a long nose plier and crimp the shields off.

Front turn signal : 1157NA. Quite a huge selection of this bulb type as it is quite common bulb size for turn signals.

Rear Brake: 7443

Rear turn signal: 7440

license plate light: 194. Huge selection of these.

Reverse light: 921

Interior:

Front/rear map light and rear cargo light: 29-31mm festoon

Vanity uses VANITY festoons with flat end caps.

I have not seen this posted by anyone yet. DRL LED light bar add-on cover for the two fog light faux vents.

you need to make sure and post that the p13w drls are only for tech package equipped vehicles
non-tech really can't get led drl replacements since it also doubles as the high beam

also, the ones vleds show i've seen several things on it saying the light output diminishes greatly after any extended time driving because the cree's heatup a lot, i wouldn't recommend those, jdmtuning has some multi led p13w's that are very bright and dont suffer any ill effects from running for any period of time

also i'd suggest checking superbrightleds.com for bulbs (other than p13w's) they have a great selection of types, sizes and colors, and tons of technical information about the bulbs, more so than any other site i've seen

Has anyone replaced the rear flashers (brkae lates too even) with LED's, and did they require a resistor. My front (switchback) flasher leds required a resistor, oddly enough in emergency light mode they blinked at regular speed, but with the flasher they blinked extra fast. Not really anywhere in the rear compartment to mount a resistor without melting something; nor are there any good attatchment points.

Thanks for starting this thread. I don't see myself immediately changing out the lights, but I will probably end up buying LEDs as spares and keep them around so as the lights go out I will replace with LED (in pairs of course where applicable).

The resistors shouldn't get too hot unless you plan on leaving the hazards on for a long period of time. Granted resistors work by exchanging electricity into heat. You can try protecting nearby components with heat reflective tape if you are worried.

Figure I'd post these up. I made these for someone. I think he's on this site. Those rear reflectors in the rear bumper, well they don't light up at all, so I made them light up. Made some custom LED modules:

Hopefully I can get some installed on the car pics soon.

Those turned out GREAT. Is is something the average Joe could do too?

Hopefully I can get some installed on the car pics soon.

I think the average Joe might have complications attempting it. It requires opened up that module properly and making a custom circuit board full of LEDs. I've been doing this for a while so it comes easy to me, but I'm not sure it would be the same for a lot of people.

Installed 68 surface mount LED (each) units. Good luminosity that is equal if not better than incandescent P13W bulb. Forward light distribution is better also as the high number of LED's lights fill the DRL housing better. A nice white light. Horrid cellphone pics is all I have for now. THe crappy camera sensor threw off the hue to make it more blue than it actually is.

Hi there, I'm thinking to change the Front and Rear turning signal to LED bulb. May I know which type of LED bulb should get? Can you please provide me the bulb code? Thanks!

LED Turn Signal

Hi there, I'm thinking to change the Front and Rear turning signal to LED bulb. May I know which type of LED bulb should get? Can you please provide me the bulb code? Thanks!

I just got these on Ebay in UK http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261215682641?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 and http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/270810513622?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2648. The bulbs are PY21W for the front and WY21W for the rear.

They haven't arrived yet so i can't tell you if they are any good. It says Error Free so hopefully all will be ok.

Hi, one more thing, is anyone know about the rear brake lights? Is there got 2 pcs of light which is tail/brake lights and back-up lights? May I know what type of LED bulb should I use for each? Thanks!
