Show me your CX-5 wheels

Hi LoinCLoth. The wheels look considerably larger than stock. Much like you, the thin width and whimpy stance bugged me. If you want to stick with OEM wheels, then increasing your width is limited. I think 235 is the max you can go. There is a great thread that lists all possible wheel/tyre sizes for our cars.

As far as rubbing, I don't think you need to worry about that unless you go to a 275 tire. My wheels are pretty much flush with the fenders now. I am however debating 5mm spacers. We'll see!

Good luck with your decision!

Nice ride SndChsr!!

I'm from Belgium and I'm getting one in Machine Grey (a diesel) and was also thinking about 20 inch wheels instead of the stock 19 inch. The wheels I'm thinking of installing (AVA HS-280) have the following dimensions: 20x8.5J ET37, combined with an all-season Vredestein Quatrac 245/45R20. If I'm right, the offset of 37 (instead of your 42) will make up for a 5mm spacer you're considering.
So I think it's not going to be too wide on the car if I go with those?

Thanks!

With some inspiration from SIGNAL_CX5 installation, I went with the following install today: Removed the stock 19's and replaced them with 245/65/17 Falken Wildpeak AT3W on Velox Apex Black 17x7.5 offset 40

They look good, but how is the ride? I'm guessing that the ride should be more "floaty", no?

I'd be curious about the same thing. Did you lose much steering response? I'm sure you gained a more comfortable ride. Was there anything else you noticed with the change to the 17" from the 19"?

Looks great! You won’t be winning any races but the ride is a lot smoother than the 19s for sure. Feels a lot more sure footedness. You may rub on full lock. I notice is mostly on U-Turns.

Would you happen to know your wheel and tire specs? Looks great by the way! Contemplating on going to 17" for a winter set up. Thanks.

These tires have stiff sidewalls, so they corner very much like the 19's did. Overall, there is a better ride, a little more dampening. I have air bags in the rear, so the rear-end is still a little firm.
The only major difference I notice is the speedometer is 2mph off (slower than actual speed) So you have to set cruise control to 73 in order to drive 75mph.

Hi All,

Currently looking at a set of 20x8.5" +35 running 245/45/20 tyres.
Any issues with this fitment to a 2014 2.5Ltr AWD, particularly the offset?

Cheers, Muz

You shouldn't have any issues.
I have 20"x9.25", ET +36 and lowered on CS springs(3-1/4" drop) and I don't have any issues.

You want an offset closer to 40-50 for an OEM look and to ensure you dont rub, but 35 offset will work.

Thinking of having my 19” pizza wheels painted the same light anthracite colour of my old RAV wheels, what do you think?

that would go well with your paint colour, but if you have those black/chrome accented wheels i think I would leave it as is. could you show pics of your current wheels?

Great, thanks so much. Have found a set of HRE P40S (pretty sure they are reps) in machine face/gloss black.
Should look great on our white CX-5. Will try post pics once fitted.

Nothing wrong with a good set of replicas, but if you live in an area with bumpy roads potholes etc. Be very careful going over bumps. Drive slowly. If you have a 40/45+ sidewall then youll be fine, but anything below 40 on a replica wheel is dangerous. Friend works at a tire shop and gets countless customers coming in with cracked reps. (Mainly because the roads where I live are horrific)

Me personally, I recommend going with some nice JDM wheels or something like motegi, enkei, gram lights etc and I would stick with 18s. Youd be surprised how different and personalized your car would look like with some gloss black rims, blacked out chrome trim, debadged rear and some fatter exhaust tips coming out the rear.

Well the price of these reps are too good to go past. Second hand but $100/corner.
Some roads around where we live can be bad but I'm always on the lookout for service trenches and potholes.
I even notify the council of road damage and it's often repaired pretty quick.

Not sure I could go 18s. Maybe 19s would be the smallest.

I love the look at this. Could never lower ours though. Family car.

I have bought them for $158/each and I have picked them up locally, in Chatsworth from nlmotoring.com. They are 20" x 9.25 x ET36, XXR553.
