What have you done to your P5 today?

Did the cabin air filter mod. Lining up that second one inside was a little frustrating but with some maneuvering I got that sucker on there. I didn't even have a filter in there and my heater core is filthy.

So yesterday new alternator went in. Today new belt again...

Really hoping it was me being simple and not tensioning belt properly, otherwise its new water pump time.

I found the problem.

There's no shame in that !!

That is an obvious defect in materials and workmanship !!!

Mazda should offer you a new part and a loaner car !!

Haha. Nah, just replacing it. But wow eh ? Being lazy and not doing water pump, obviously pulleys and tensioner as well as belt.

... Being lazy and not doing water pump,...

Are you sure you wanna do that ???

They're about $25 and you'll have to do all the work over again and remove all your new components to do it later.

And sure as Shyte, it'll spring a leak in a week.

You can purchase a complete Gates timing kit including the WP (part no. TK-MAZ220WP) for Australian $184.00 retail (cheaper for trade).
Converted that is about $US 141.00.

What prices do they go for in the US and Canada?

I got a new valve cover gasket with my kit.
I forget whether it was separate or included... I didn't do my cam or crank seals they've been in there probably since the car was new.
