MULTI-MODEL - WHINING NOISE FROM AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE

DESCRIPTION

Some customers may complain of a whining noise from the automatic transaxle when driving at 10 mph and above. The noise:

Depends on the vehicle’s speed only (the more speed, the more noise)

Occurs with all types of driving (acceleration, deceleration, steady speed)

Does not depend on rpm, gear, or ATF temperature

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify customer concern.
2. Replace the 6AT assembly with a new one according to MS3 online instructions or Workshop Manual section 05-17.
3. Verify repair.

MULTI-MODEL (WITH SKYACTIV-DRIVE A/T) - VEHICLE SPEED DOES NOT INCREASE WITH ENGINE SPEED AND ATX DOES NOT SHIFT UP OR DOWN

DESCRIPTION

Some vehicles may exhibit the ATX fail-safe function working with the following symptoms:

The vehicle speed does not increase with engine speed

The ATX does not shift up or down as expected

The condition may not always be able to be reproduced and DTCs may not be stored when the vehicle is brought in. Foreign material (iron particles in the ATF) may enter the ATX valve body and cause a temporary malfunction of the valve body and/or sensor (ATX fail-safe function activated). The fail-safe function is canceled without DTCs recorded if the malfunction goes away and does not occur again at the next drive cycle.

Fail-safe function operation:

If a technical fault is detected in the ATX by the malfunction detection function, the fail-safe function limits the ATX control (inhibits some gears or shift down functions).

Even in case of an ATX malfunction, the fail-safe function allows minimum vehicle driveability.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle inspected/repaired using the following repair procedure.
 
Just wondering.. how does TSB work? I don't think I ever done any TSB on any cars, only recalls or some mail from manufacturers telling me to go fix something... I plan on going to a local Mazda dealer soon to tell them the issues on my 2014 Touring (build date 4/14 I think) car (had it for a year, been lazy to go to any Mazda).

-Mirror & Hood vibration/shake
-A/C "Windshield" position it's a bit stiff to turn to, used to revert back to the previous position
-There's air blowing through the legs even when the selector is on "blowing towards people only", most noticeable when A/C is on, feet is freezing LOL
-Infotainment system (like everyone else)
 
TSBs (technical service bulletins) are widely misunderstood by internet forum users and others. They are simply a way the auto manufacturers have of communicating established diagnostic and repair procedures for known problems on their products to their dealer network. They were never intended for public consumption, but are readily available on many internet sites and it is often helpful to bring a TSB reference with you to the dealer service department when it appears to apply to a particular problem you are experiencing with your car. The dealer will still have to verify that the problem does in fact exist, but having the TSB info at the ready can often speed up the repair experience.
 
+1... I just like to be aware of them in case a listed issue crops up on my vehicle. It does make it easier when communicating the issue to dealer although I have had mixed results just plopping the printed TSB down for a resolution. Maybe some feel like you are telling them how to do their job?

I usually just state the symptoms very similar in wording to the TSB and let dealer discover. This doesn't always work but sometimes you have to work different angles.

DESCRIPTION

Some vehicles may exhibit an engine no start in ambient temperatures below -4 degree Fahrenheit (-20 degree Celsius) after driving for 10 - 20 minutes and then parking the car for about one hour. This may be caused by the contact point of the main relay freezing due to moisture inside the main relay.

2014 Mazda6 vehicles with VINs lower than JM1 GJ ****** 160470 (produced before November 21, 2013)

DESCRIPTION

Some vehicles may exhibit a condition that after replacing one tire with another, which results in large tread depth difference between tires, or tire rotation, the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) warning light illuminates even though the tire pressures are adjusted and the TPMS is initialized correctly.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify customer concern.
2. Check all tire pressures (see tire label located on the driver's side B-pillar or edge of drivers door frame for specification). Are the tire pressures correct?
Yes - Proceed to step 3.

No - This bulletin does not apply. Refer to MS3 online or Workshop Manual (section 02-03 NO.1 TPMS WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATES).

3. Confirm with the customer that the TPMS warning light illuminated after replacing one tire or tire rotation.
Yes - Proceed to step 4.

No - This bulletin does not apply. Refer to MS3 online or Workshop Manual (section 02-03 NO.1 TPMS WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATES).

4. Replace the DSC HU/CM. Refer to MS3 online or Workshop Manual (section 04-15 DSC HU/CM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).
5. Verify repair.

Some vehicles may experience a rattle noise from the front door glass when driving with the window open approx. 1/2 to 4 inches (1 - 10 cm).



The rattle noise may be caused by insufficient glass run channel holding force. To eliminate this concern, the shape of glass run channel has been changed in order to increase the holding force.

DESCRIPTION

Some vehicles may experience a buzzing noise from the steering column when driving on rough roads or passing over speed bumps. This buzzing noise may be caused by the lower steering column cover (A) contacting the steering wheel adjustment lock lever (B). To correct the problem, felt is attached to the steering column cover.



Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify customer concern.
2. Pull the lock lever release and attach the two pieces of felt (KD45-55-163 and KD45-55-162) to the lower steering column cover as shown, without removing the steering column cover (F: Front of vehicle).
NOTE: Provide 5 mm of clearance between the two pieces of felt. DO NOT overlap them to avoid peeling off.
 
@ Kedis82ZE8: thank you for posting the TSBs. Some of them are ending right before the details of the repair procedure. Can you, please, give us a link or something were the full TSB can be viewed. It is good to know how complex the repair procedure is before you go to the car service. Thank you!

DESCRIPTION

Some vehicles may exhibit a chirp noise from the rear shock absorbers (A) when driving on a rough road or passing over a speed bump. Visual inspection of the shock absorbers show no external damage or oil leakage.



Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify customer concern.
2. Replace the rear shock absorber. Refer to MS3 online or Workshop Manual (section 02-14 REAR SHOCK ABSORBER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).

DESCRIPTION

While driving over rough or bumpy roads, some vehicles may exhibit a rattle noise from the instrument panel and/or a creak noise from the A-pillar.

Rattle Noise From Instrument Panel:



The rattle noise may be caused by low cowl panel (A) mounting bolt (B) torque.



Creak Noise From A-Pillar:

This noise may be caused by two joined panels (A) scraping together at the A-pillar. The panel weld areas have been improved during the mass-production of vehicles with VINs JM3KE******128359 (produced June 1, 2012) or higher.



Customers having these concerns should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedures.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

While verifying the customer concern, it may be difficult to distinguish the rattle noise from the creak noise. Use the table below to determine the appropriate repair.

Rattle Noise From Instrument Panel:

1. Remove the cowl grille according to the online MS3 instructions or the Workshop Manual (section 09-16 COWL GRILLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).
CAUTION: To avoid damaging the windshield, be sure to apply adequate protection along the bottom edge of the glass (i.e. tape or a sliced rubber hose) before retightening the cowl panel bolts.



2. Retighten all ten (10) cowl panel bolts (A) to:
Tightening Torque: 17-22 ft. lbs {22-30 Nm, 2.3-3.0 kgf-m)

3. Reinstall the cowl grille according to the online MS3 instructions or the Workshop Manual (section 09-16 COWL GRILLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).
Creak Noise From A-Pillar:

Enlarge the clearance between two (2) panels (A) using an appropriate tool (i.e. flat-blade screwdriver).

NOTE: In the illustration (below, right), the front fender is removed for viewing purpose only. It is not necessary to remove the front fender for this repair.



1. Identify which side the noise is coming from (repair only the problem side).
2. Remove the mud guard according to the MS3 online instructions or the Workshop Manual (section 09-16 MUD GUARD REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).
3. Remove the cowl side seal plate (A) and fender seal plate (B).


4. Open the front door and place a flat-blade screwdriver with protection tape on the tip (B) between the two panels at joint (A).


5. Bend the cowl side reinforcement panel (A) to create a clearance of more than 1 mm between the panels.


NOTE:

To avoid damaging the paint, wrap protection tape around the tip of the screwdriver.

If there are scratches on the panels, apply appropriate corrosion protection primer.

6. Reinstall the removed parts in the reverse order of removal.
NOTE: Passenger Side Only: When reinstalling the cowl side seal plate, make sure to install the rear window washer hose (B) in the opening (A) to avoid hose damage.



7. If necessary, repeat Steps 1 - 6 on other side.
8. Road test vehicle and verify noise has been eliminated.
