Fuel Economy

I thought 35 was a ceiling for me. Personal best being 35.7

NOPE!
37.1 this morning. Cold morning and light traffic due to holidays - 30 min drive with stops 45 mph roads and few highway miles hitting 70. Car is bone stock, not even replaced the 60W DRL which eats about .2 mpg per tank. But man this peak mpg is superb. 5 Yo drivetrain - still the best in class.

How do you calculate MPG for a specific trip? Thanks in advance.

The car does. You can also setup the info system so that when you end a trip and turn the engine off it shows the Trip mpg. Play around with info system and you should see it somewhere.
While driving - go to Applications (left most) and select Fuel Economy Monitor - that is the screen you see. Same screen will show when you turn off your engine after a trip if you set it up.

bottom graph is everytime you reset the fuel economy (overall) - I try to do it at every tank refill.

2017 cx-5 GT awd , over 2 hour road trip with hills up and down, highway and some city driving , traffic as well. Ended up with 31.6 mpg average , make sure your tire pressure is at 35 on cold tires without driving first. Reset your mpg monitor and don't be heavy footed and I'm sure you will get decent mpg.

Kaps' playlist must include: "if you could read my mind" and "sundown" (nothing wrong w/those btw)..but maybe try some Volbeat or Breaking Benjamin once in awhile- have a little fun gas is cheap enough esp there zoomzoom right?

Cant touch this!!
Toyota Camry 15 SE on same route gives 28-30 mpg. Wow this is hybrid territory. Too bad it seems Mazda 17 CX5 mixed mpg is Fubar. Every where i see its s*** compared to what 16s could get. And 17 is slower on top of it. well you get sound insulation thats good.

I have read comments here and other places that people noticed a difference after several thousand miles.

The CX5 is very sensitive to your foot. If you have the fuel economy gauge up on your info screen you will notice what I’m saying. Just a slight release of pressure off the accelerator will move the needle more to the positive side. Reminds me of the old vacuum gauges.

Broke my 37.1 on my drive. FWD 2016.5 CX5 Touring with Bose / Moon roof - stock no changes at all.

The new top figure for my morning commute is 39.4 mpg.

Yep let that sink in - 18 miles and commute time is 30-34 mins. City roads for 6 miles wtih lights ofcourse, State hwy with 55 limit for 6 miles with lights ofcourse and last 6 on larger state highway with 65.
Traffic was not even the lowest I have seen, not sure what caused this - no pics as I was not expecting more than 33. So not sure why I got this number, I think in true world economy it may have crossed 40 since my fillup calc is about .5 to 1.5 higher than what computer shows.

So there you have it ladies n gents.
FWD 2016.5 peak trip mpg record for Kaps:

39.4 mpg.
/Legend.

Impressive but you could've posted 100mpg per your OBR over a 20 mile mostly downhill stretch with gale force tail winds - only thing that matters is miles traveled over gallons used per tank or better like 5-10 tanks, then post again.

/Reality.

Cute, but may as well be 99.9 if you don't post full tank numbers- go 546+ miles (39x14) so easy-peasy per your most recent returns on 1 full tank then you can claim legen-waitforit oh but you can't sniff that for some reason though, right?

I have always mentioned it is peak efficiency per trip. Yes in the evening when traffic sucks - I hit 27, along with idling, dropping kids / errands etc. a tank avg will drop significantly. Still does not dilute the fact that individual trip #s are in mid 30s most often. Which contributes to a high avg. #. The 39.4 matters - it is contributing to a 28-29 tank avg including other conditions. See the image posted above it is for a trip not an instantaneous mpg # that can hit 99.
I also add the driving conditions - so thats an added bonus. Bottom line is that CX5 My 16 in FWD can hit peak of 35 for certain trips, there could be folks out there who can hit 31 / 32 per tank.
In other words it is a legend.

nope-546 for that title, semi for 500+

yeah whatever, first off its 11.5 gallons for me not 14 - I dont know anyone whose warnings come on till 14, 2nd I do run small errands at lunch / weekends - so unless I have a very free week where I dont do that - no chance. Still my individual trip # mpg remains a stellar. And it is contributing to a 29 tank avg - 330 per tank.

On other side of the spectrum, again CX5 beats my camry for small errands as well. Trip mpg is about 2-5 more than Camry. Both 15 Camry SE and CX5 are configured to show trip mpg upon trip completion.

Hi:

Brand new 2018 CX-5 GS, AWD with 2.5L engine. Here's my results on the first 3/4 tank.

I am driving mainly about 60 city streets and about 40% hwy. Having said that in the morning, the DVP may as well be city driving. I have flicked into Sport mode a few times to get a good kick with acceleration but mainly leave it in the default mode. I warm up the car so that the blue light is almost off before driving but I have the auto climate control set to 22 degress C.

My results follow.

10.2 lites per 100 kms
27.69 miles per imperial gallon
24 miles per US gallon

Good to know.

Got my Moly oil change done. Instantly got to see the effects. I think 40 mpg is a bit too far for my trip.
Overall with fresh moly I see a 1-2 mpg difference. I see 29 mpg on a tank. Plus I see really nice mpg on highway - 33 mpg is still a long shot.

My last part of commute is on highway - so I drive 60-65 conservatively. I did punch it to merge once but apart from that I was really cautious.

I am getting 37 mpg (uk imperial gallons) or 30 us mpg, however have seen as high as 44mpg or 36 us from my 2litre petrol. Done 900 miles since brand new with no running in issues at all.

I mainly do short trips to and from work and use cruise control pretty much all the time. Current predicted range is 425 miles on my 50 litre fill up. Literally couldn't squeeze any more in and I ran it to zero miles last time.

I moved from a diesel Kia sportage and wasn't getting much better mpg from that so I am very happy.
