Canada projects a $4.9B surplus this year

Actually it's $5.9B, and that's after they subtracted $3B for "rainy-day money to cover unforeseen budget needs."
 
Maybe they can build themselves a military with that surplus!




On second thought, why would they bother, since they will need our help should anything arise anyway.

Maybe their military doesn't invade other countries under false pretences. BTW, guess who joined the allies in WWII first.
 
True but when position correctly they can hold down a force, heck we've been held down by suspected sniper fire. It will give them time to flee across the border to us :)
But never under estimate the usefulness of a highly trained sniper force.

What people fail to realize is that no one wants to invade Canada. It pretty much squashes the whole "they hate us because of our lifestyle, freedom, liberty" crap. If this was the case, Canada would be on the s*** list too, but they aren't. They mind their own damn business. Terrorists attack us because we are aggressive, greedy, manipulative, and hypocritical.
 
No doubt...Canada will need to rely on the US in the grand scheme of things, but make no mistake the forces we have are some of the best.

Too many "war games" to mention in where Canada has come out on top. Everything from Air Operations, Sniping, Tank Warefare, to Naval Executions.

Grantes...the US has a larger more well equiped force...the best technology money has to offer.

Canadians have learned to work more with less. We have equipment that is in service that is well over 30 years old (I think they SeaKing Helicopters are a perfect example of this).

5.9B .... they better be giving me back some of that dough.

If they needed an Air Force, which would be the most likely given the terrain, they should probably call India. the USAF got thier butts kicked by the Indian Air Force not too long ago in a wargame. One of the US Generals even said that we should probably go back and freshen up on our air combat techniques.
 
On that topic...did you guys know that our imigration dept here in Canada has been FLOODED with requests and inquiries from US Citizens on immigrating to Canada since the Bush Election Win?

In fact they are being bogged down with requests.

Granted the US still has the most powerful military, but the canadian military is very well trained and equipped. Gotta give credit where credit is due.
 
The miltary differences are in our ability to strike anywhere at anytime within minutes. This isnt a defensive force. We do ahve the largest and most advanced Navy. I think the next most powerful navy is Russia->Englan->France, they each only have a handful of aircraft carriers, none of which match ours. We also have a huge mothball fleet of cruisers, destroyers, and battleships just waiting to come out. We also have a nuclear force that has tens thousands of thermonuclear devices. These two branches alone, the Navy and Strategic Air Command, probably account for most defense expenditures.
However many are correct in that Canada like other countries have their military's mainly for self defense. Although France did just annihilate the Ivory Coasts entire Air Force in one strike, and people thought they were pussies.
Well i guess we have to justify having such a specialized military by constantly using it :(
 
Though having the most advance technogly does not always mean a 100% advantage. The training is just as important, and yes the US military is highly trained though in some situations other forces can match that. Just have to make sure not to get to cocky about it, cause will bite us in the ass.
