I just replaced my tires, after 5000 miles of turbo the front right tire was worn down to the belts and the passanger side tire still had half the tread left. I really need an LSD bad and I suspect this is aggravating wheel hop.

So the options are MAZDASPEEDS lsd prolly a grand

A quaffe or some other brand LSD this is prolly 800-900 beans

I just read an srticle in Sport compact about a company called www.phantomgrip.com
They make lsd's that cost 299!!!!!!!
Well they work slightly different than a viscous and other models but supposedly just as well. This is also a good upgrade for you N/A guys/

Only problem is that they dont have a listing for our car. I am gonna try contacting and seeing if they plan on making it for our cars.

Anybody in on this?
Maybe we can send emails requesting for this product. 299 is a steal!

I'm in! For $299 you can't go wrong!

I always say " You pay what you get".....
Very true but a guy I know with an se-r swears buy it and sport compact is using it on there project car with really good results.

The key to it being so economical is that does not replace the diff, its just modifies your original unit into an lsd.

I was a bit skeptical at first but it seems good.

If they make one for our application, I could be the test mule:D

There's a shop here in Quebec, Canada, that do this kind of modification. I know someone who has a turbo Proteg and that is supposed to get his differential done by those guys.

The turbo Proteg owner told me that is cost something like $300 to get the job done.

As soon as I get more info on that, I'll let you know.

I've heard some good things about the Phantom Grip too, but I think you'd be better off with the Quaife LSD unfortunately it costs around $1200 last time I checked. The Honda units cost $800-900. Goodluck guys, I hope you can put something together

Hey guys, stay away from phantom grip

Just from my experience a couple years back.......we use to have track days for the hybrid honda group, phantom grip gave about 10 of their lsd conversions to members to try out, 6 of those kits came loose (almost all when one of the wheels lifted off the ground) can you imagine what happens to your differential when two blocks of steel go through it? I'd save for a quaife unit made for the msp, then use the bigger driveshafts as well.

Thanks for the input guys!
Look like the phantom is a no-go

Well I have to start savin up my pennies to get a real lsd

Hey man you can get a 1.8 4WD 323 or protege gt. They come with the g series trans axle which we have. I had one in my 91 escort gt with the mazda bp motor. I put it in my car about 2 weeks ago. When I shift into 2nd and 3rd both tires chirp and when I do a burn out at the track both tires spin. Its awesome,

What part exactly have you installed inyour P5 and is it bolt-on or you had to modified something?

Hey Spool (terry)

Did you ever end up trying the Phantom Grip LSD???

I'm kinda thinking about it. I'm looking for someone who has actually installed it, not someone who heard of a guy who did it. The price is certainly right where I could buy it at anytime.

Then again, there is something to be said for getting what you pay for.

Any comments would be appreciated.

i though it wouldnt work with auto. I could be wrong.

There was disscusions b4 about phantom grip wrecking your tranny. Someone in the Forsale sections was selling them for 225$.
