Power/weight ratio of smart roadster BRABUS and roadster-coup BRABUS even more attractive
The two-seater vehicles, which come with a sports suspension as standard, have an engine output of 74 kW (101 bhp), corresponding to an increase of more than 20 percent as against the variants with 60 kW (82 bhp). These cars already offer a power/weight ratio of 13.2 kilogrammes per kilowatt (9.6 kg per bhp). At 11.2 kilogrammes per kilowatt (8.3 kg per bhp), the smart roadster BRABUS and roadster-coup BRABUS achieve a figure that make the cars even more agile.
The tridion safety cell and the bodypanels of the two vehicles are black, and both are also available in the colour speed silver as an option. In both cases the side skirts and the front and rear spoiler are painted in the same colour as the body.
Further standard features include a soft top and 17 inch alloy wheels (front: 205/40 R17, rear: 225/35 R17), black leather sports seats with seat heating and a three-spoke leather sports steering wheel with shift paddles.
In Germany, the price for the smart roadster BRABUS is 24,950 and the price for the roadster-coup BRABUS is 26,570 (incl. VAT). BRABUS variants of the smart fortwo coup and fortwo cabrio have been available since the beginning of 2003. A wide range of accessories is available for all models at smart centres. From April 2004 exclusive smart-BRABUS accessories will also be available for the new smart forfour.
Commenting on the presentation of the 74 kW (101 bhp) models, Andreas Renschler, smart President says that "With this extension to the model range, in 2004 we will continue the success of the smart roadster and roadster-coup". We see good prospects for exceeding the sales figure of 20,000 vehicles of this series next year."
Further opportunities for individualisation in the new model year
For the smart roadster and roadster-coup, the components of the Comfort, Sports and Safety Plus packages are now also available as individual options, further improving the opportunities for individualisation. These include a trip computer, cruise control, rain and light sensor, alloy wheels in spikeline design, a leather sports steering wheel with shift paddles or heated leather sports seats.
In addition to the 60 kW variant of the smart roadster, from the beginning of the new model year the roadster-coup will also be available with a soft top as standard. The soft top can be opened to any desired position, even whilst driving, and closed again by pressing a button. It takes just ten seconds to fully open the soft top which slides back under the roll-over bar to the luggage compartment. The prices for the smart roadster and roadster-coup remain unchanged starting at 14,990 (in Germany incl. VAT) for the 45 kW smart roadster. This vehicle will continue to be available with a hardtop, which is available as an accessory for the 60 kW variants. Likewise, for an additional charge, the 45 kW roadster is now available with a silver tridion safety cell, Leather package and Sports package.
