Anyone ever built a custom truck bed bike rack?

you'd prolly be better off using light duty copper piping for teh rack...lil more money than pvc pipe but it would last 4ever and be alot stronger...pvc pipe is brittle after sun damage

Do you have a bedliner? On my mazda truck the bedliner had slots to hold 2x4s (maybe to keep loads in, I dunno. Anyways, I just cut a piece to fit between the two slots, then bought fork mounts and mounted them to the wood.

Cost? 14.99 per bike + piece of wood

Do you have to take a wheel off to use those fork mounts? It doest give much detail how they are installed. I dont want to have to take a wheel of to transport the bikes.

Yeah, you take off the front wheel. All you gotta do is undo the quick release on the front fork, and if you have V-brakes disconnect the front brakes. Or do you not want loose wheels flyin around?

a fork mount bike rack is a *much* sturdier way to haul your bikes around.. much more secure too..

I made a rack for my dakota real simply. I took a couple L-brackets and a peice of angle iron. I mounted these to the existing tie down hooks and installed 2 Yakaima lockable fork mounts on the angle iron.

You can see the rack in this picture right up next to the cab. Took up maybe 2" of bed space.

Do you have any more detailed pics?

unfortunately, I don't... I've since sold the truck...

Does your truck have tie down hooks or something else you could bolt to?
