1993 Mazda Protege GT

I had some spare time, so I thought I'd do a write-up. Not many people may know that they exist, but for Mazda's 25th anniversary in Canada in 1993, they made a run of 500 special edition Proteges. Equiptment wise, they are very similar to the American LX, with the 1.8 BP-ZE(with 125hp), 4 wheel disc, power windows, locks and mirrors, etc. The only option on the GT was AC. But what set them apart was their modest style makeover. They all had black paint, factory spoiler, red pinstriping and most importantly the J-Spec GTX interior, with racing seats, special door panels and rear armrest. Also, the front end is the style that all 94s would end up taking on, with the slanted hood and headlamps. No other Proteges in 93 had it.

I own one of these, as does another guy from the Toronto Protege Club. This fellow has actually owned two. One was wrecked(to which I have the drivetrain, and many other parts), and as luck had it, he came across another, which he currently owns. I believe most have been sold in Ontario, since I've seen 2 others out and about. I talked to both drivers, and both didn't care that they were driving a limited edition car. One of the spottings was when the other GT owner and I were cruising together, and we pulled up on both sides of him. What were the chances of that? As of 3 days ago, there were 2 for sale in the Canadian Autotrader too.....

Here's a few pics. I currently have half of the interior removed, but I took pics of the back seat and door panels. They're currently for sale if anyone wants them.....
