Protege 929 Master Cylinder Brake Upgrade

WOW!! No kidding, 2300 AUD is... A lot! What ended up costing so much? That's more than I spent dropping a new engine into my RX7!

major cost was the rotor hats (as they are 2 peice) and labour. however, the rotors are basically race rotors. a pair of rotors was $600aud alone, labour and machining was $1100, then there is pads, stainless lines and fluid.

but i have to say, these brakes rock! went for a rather spirited drive through the mountains on the weekend...flogging into every corner out of about 200 and i experienced no brake fade at all. and that was even with street pads!

I've done this mod on my GTX as well.

I'm using the same Master cylinder part number as described above, and I am using a Brake booster from a 95 Protege (Escort/Tracer/Miata use the same, if not very similar boosters.), as well as Mitsubishi Galant rotors and Escort GT calipers.

I have seen two web pages that are devoted to this swap, and I must say that it is definately worth it. I put in my two races this year and used my Mazda MotorSports discount on the Master cylinder.

Good write-up, BTW!

Just did this mod to my msp today and honestly didn't notice too much of a difference compared to the stock msp master cylinder. Did anyone else on this board try this mod?

I know another guy in NH did this, shortly after I did it. It feels FANTASTIC. But hey, that's me talking. =) I still drive around with this day in and day out.

So I'm trying to find one on eBay, etc because the dealership wants $310 my cost, retail for the MC is $420.

My question is what years does this work from? Flat black mentioned his was off a '93, but what other years will work?

anyone got a picture of this installed?
id like to see which banjo bolts and pipe joints I'll need to pull off if i find one of these at a junk yard.

We don't need to replace the booster can though. Just the master cylinder. Literally two nuts mount it to the can, and then just attach the lines and bleed all four corners. It's not rocket science guys.

I realize I am digging up an older thread but.... Did anyone determine that the 929 mc needed to be the w/ABS type. I installed Mazda 6 calipers and rotors on my P5 and would like to have a stiffer/shorter pedal feel.

my guess would be yes other wise your ABS light on the dash will be on all the time
