LSD Failure LIST

well i had 4 tranny failures in one year. production number 414. i traded in my mazdaspeed and found out the motor blew one week after the dealer sold it to some kid. so now i'm finally out of that mess.
regarding the milage. i forgot but i can tell you this.
#1 shift linkage broke first. gernaded 3rd gear.
#2 then 4rth gear went.
#3 then the diff went.
#4 then 3rd gear went agian.
that tranny is garbage. so either let your first mod be a straight cut gear set and some cryogening. or simply get another tranny. i here the ford tranny works and that can handle the power.

Wow. Thats impressive. The only 3rd gear breakings I have seen was Focus and I, and we were both well over 300+whp.
What the heck did you have done to it?

lsd went at 24k but it might of had something to do with the six puck solid hub clutch disc i put in......i might have grabed too good!

It worked the first day, but I went to a friends house and it said you have to be logged in to view. I don't know why. can anyone help. I'll try to get them back but I don't know what I did wrong.

Thanks Sam, I wanted everyone to see what goes on when the diff breaks. There is alot of pieces that can damage your transmission. I got lucky, I thought the clutch had gone with mine. It still drove but it felt as the clutch was not holding any power it just spun, if I reved it to high it could just spin so I babied it to a gas station and had it towed to my house then in the morning I drove about a mile to a friends house (some guy in an integra tried to race me cause I had my e-lights going what a moron). You can see in the first pic all the pieces broken down from the diff, the rivets that need to be drilled off or grinded however you do it the 2nd pic is the inside of the diff and the gears, then the last pic I thought I would show the spot where it breaks (above of my broken finger) from the weld spots where it broke. Good Luck to everyone else I hope this doesn't happen to any other person. Sorry it got long.

thanks for the pics. i asked the dealer to keep my OEM one out so i could see it and photograph it. They said they would, but they forgot to nor did I pursue it.

Thanks for posting the pics. Now I can clearly see what is contributing to these failures. Two of the four places they welded have almost no meat to weld to! Check out the rounded indentions on the inside with the welds right on top of those areas.

I would like to know how many are 2003 LSds vs 2003.5 I heard they fixed the LSD is it true. Would like to see the year next to the blown ones. IF htey are all 2003 then that would be a major problem.

No, the 03 and 03.5 is the same. You heard wrong from whoever told you. All colors and years have had broken LSD's.

Since I got my MSP used, is there any way I would be able to see what type of work has been done to it? I pulled a carfax...and I had no major accidents according that, so that's good, but how would I find out maintenance records? Would I have to just randomly go to any dealer or write MazdaUSA??? I'd appreciate any help...
