(meaning a registry only)

t3ase - ~24k. lsd replaced. there was also a stock msp that was *just* ripped apart due to the exact same problem when i was there picking my car up.

my LSD broke at 12,000 miles.

my LSD failed as well at about 17000..

my lsd blew out and 15,279

my lsd blew right past 19000. stock car. Soon I will get a quaife lsd, i already have the shop manuals parts washer and varius other tools i need. Mazda left everything torn apart thrown in a box with the bolts and mixed it together but I plan on doing it my self

John, Louisville Ky has a broken diff. I think its production #75. He's not a forum member, gcotton informed me of this today.

Well I got bit as well......Yesterday coming home from work I take the last corner onto the street my house is on when the MSP stopped putting power to the ground....It would go into every gear but would sit and whine but not go anywhere. So I had it towed back to work. This morning I pushed it in and started tearing it apart....The clutch pressure plate fingers were definetly warped and the pressure plate was blue (can't imagine why). I had the transmission out in under 1 1/2 hrs. and disassembled it. Found as I sort of expected the lsd had split apart from the ring gear......now that I actually got to look at it in person it almost looks like it would be an open diff. What a bad design in my opinion. I think I will end up getting another Mazda lsd depending on how long its gonna take for one and how much its gonna cost.
I am ordering an ACT clutch and have to talk to corksport about that lightweight mazdaspeed flywheel (if it really is under $200) I will get it as well.

Now in my opinion I don't think the dragracing hurt the lsd, in my opinion it was autocrossing it with the same set-up that I drag race with (don't know the hp level but its pretty damn high for a protege). Ever since then I was getting a slight driveline vibration in all gears, so I figured something was going just wasn't sure what it was (nor did I really care -read- weak link--).

3rd of all, starting group buys is NOT in the scope of the thread!! You are in the wrong section too! So before you go questioning the directives of this thread, and the decisions of a mod, please have your stuff together!

Where the LSD in your transaxle snaps in 2 pieces at the drive ring gear. Pics in that thread above.

There are 2 versions of the MSP LSD.
One was in the original 03 and maybe some the latter 03.5/03.7 got the revised versions.

More info on the new revised LSD.
LSD = Limited slip differential
Locks up both spider gears to turn the wheels equally under load to improve traction and torque distribution. While slipping slightly to maintain driveability around turns so the tires dont squeal a lot on every turn b/c the inside tire has a smaller turning radius.
