Cheap/Easy Mod for Air Inlet

:
Lancer Ralliart Sportback
As I looked at the stock air inlet - there is no easy way for air to get to it... The grill is 'solid' in front of it!

By taking a drill and opening the grill I gained a modest boost.

Tip- Take the grill off first and drill from the backside to avoid the drill marring the paint on the fascia (D'oh!).

Do you have pics of what and how you did this? Not 100% sure I know what you are talking about. (Is the P5 same as the MP3?)

If you're using the stock airbox one would think switching to a K&N type filter even a drop in design would increase your airflow more then drilling some small holes.

I don't know if it applies to P3...

Stand By for pix

I couldn't 'see' my air inlet until i drilled out the holes in the stock grill.

As soon as the stock filter is dirty i plan to drop in the k&n.

My advice is to quit playing with the factory airbox. Nothing We could do to it made any difference on the dyno. It's just not designed well. I had a post on protegeclub.com about this same type of mod back in January. It works to a small extent in cool weather. Basically I removed a small area of grill support directly under the intake snorkel. It did make a difference, but only when I was rolling. It's like a poor mans ram air. Still not near as good as a short ram.

Eek. Drilling sounds scary. If you're really concerned with intake, buy one.
