$1000 What to do?

from those 3 things...20hp from the engine....less drive line loss to the wheels

if you're going to do that, do some headwork - port, polish combustion chamber, valve job at the same time....then you'll be talking 40hp easy

For port, polish combustion chamber and valve jobs, I am assuming I will need to take it to a local shop, as I have little to no Idea what is involved in this process... How much should I expect to pay for those things?

you could pay anything from $500 up...try talking to a few local engine reconditioners and see what they recommend.

pro5foote - You may want to consider weight reduction. 10lbs weight reduction is ~ 1whp. Reduce the unsprung weight in the suspension, wheels, brakes will yield better acceleration as well. 1lbs off the statis weight of the wheels is equivalent to reducing 6-7lbs while moving.

Take out your spare tire. This is a cheap 40lb weight reduction :) -> $0 :)
