    Mazda Popularity

Apropos of nothing really but I've seen some posts or questions asking why Mazda doesn't sell more cars. Just thought I'd mention that here in Colombia in 2018 the Mazda CX-5 ranked number 12 in sales of individual car models and the brand Mazda was number four behind GM, Renault and Nissan. Cheers.

I'm starting to see a lot more CX-5's in my area. There's about 8-10 in my development out of 170 homes. There's probably three times that many CR-V's though.

Never cared. The average person has an IQ of 100. Half of em are dumber than that. "Popular" means nothing to me.

That's cool. I'm also way too smart to care about the car I drive and have posted nearly 8000 times about in under 5 years. It's because of the the average person being so stupid compared to meeee.

    Whoa there.

Yeah I don't know. I'm not really a fan of the direction Mazda has been going in personally (I think that CX-30 and MX-30 are ugly). As for why you don't see as many, the average person doesn't know much about cars so they buy a Toyota or a Honda. The person looking for the cheaper car go for a Nissan or a Kia. Meanwhile Mazda is trying to be "upmarket" now, and I don't know, maybe in my eyes that's not as big of a market.

And then they've completely abandoned Mazdaspeed and their sports cars, etc.

So I don't know. In my eyes, Mazda is struggling with identity, their marketing here in NA sucks and exacerbates that problem, and they also just don't have good dealer presence in a lot of areas.

I agree. Guess we'll see if anything improves now that they're entered into an alliance with Toyota.

I never opined on MY intelligence, or lack.
Also, I happen to like my CX5 turbo.
Again, still not really one to give a damn if OTHERS like my CX5 turbo.

Mazda is not doing well in USA, but it is doing OK in many other countries.
Don't worry about Mazda going belly up. Not happening soon.

I happen to like Mazda's new marketing positioning, which is one notch above Honda and Toyota.
Every co-worker who sat in my Mazda6 was impressed. They never considered Mazda before.
I recommended Mazda to two co-workers, who had Honda/Toyota on their shopping list. They both brought back Mazda at the end of shopping. Overall, a better package, they said. Especially, CX5 against competition.

Marketing creates the need, sales satisfies it. Mazda does neither of those in NA.

Crazy, isn't it? So many people (like me) who never considered the brand in the first place walk out of the showroom knowing we could not consider anything else. All Mazda has to do is get people in the showroom in the first place, and it seems that they make no effort to.

Look at all these people doing a terrible job:

Mazda, if you're looking to cut costs, look no further.

New FEEL ALIVE® campaign will debut during NCAA Championship game through 60-second launch film, *Dream Bigger*
I rarely see a Mazda commercial air during a non-sports program, and it's usually one that has got to be high dollar (like this NCAA championship game, golf tournaments, etc). As I've said before, to me these "touchy-feely" commercials come after you've established a sales stream, and aren't suitable for laying the foundation.
