Diesel CX5 has landed in the USA

The engineer even admitted it's detuned for emissions. I won't be surprised to see this as a 1 year special, no one is buying this thing.

That's too bad.

These days, it doesn't seem that Mazda has that kind of cash they can just toss in the dust bin.

Also sucks for anyone who buys a car when there are a small number out there. No depth of parts or service available...

Yeah, lower compression ratio and extra fuel used to keep particulate filter always ready for redline acceleration without exceeding strict emissions parameters apparently.

My dealer has none. I wonder if they sold one. Not likely. I'll ask next time I'm in the neighborhood.

That MT article was, ahem, devastating.

Equity investors in Mazda have been wiped out.

Yeh, I've been following the stock for a little while. Some have speculated that it's ripe for a Toyota buyout, but I don't know what premium Toyota would pay (they already own a slug of each other's stock, with Toyota holding 5% of Mazda, last time I looked). There are other one-time events (factory flood I believe) that killed current profits, as well as investments for the future.

I see there was an M6.1 earthquake in Hokkaido a few hours ago. I have no idea if this is near any Mazda plants.

As you stated, investors have not been fared well.
When that "2019 Will Be So Much Better" article was written in May, the stock was about $5.86
Today it is near $4.00
Five years ago it was at $13.00

The thing about Japanese companies (I used to work for one) is that they will not manage their business to drive quarterly--or even annual--results. They are in it for the long term.

I did a search on CarGurus about 4 weeks ago for Atlanta 50 mile radius CX-5 Diesel there were 7 listed. Just checked again and there are 7 using the exact same search.

So Mazda is doing a good job of rapidly replenishing sold inventory? ;)

Mazda will probably have to deeply discount them to even sell one. I am thinking $5k incentives. All Mazda can do is hope to break even or take a little loss. Making a profit, no way, that ship has sailed.
