PCB's Unbuild Thread

This is why I never lowered my car.

Because I'm too lazy to shovel the driveway

I woke up to -17C today.
I'm walking to the store. It's easier than getting the car going.

Been awhile since I was on the forums, anything new going one with the unbuild? I see pistons n rings, did you make it to the block internals? If so you made more progress than me in a whole year!

No, I didn't get that far.
I had the piston already out but didn't think of removing the rings and taking a look.
You can see the plugged up oil drain hole.

Keep in mind that I had no intention of putting anything back together. I just cut and hacked my way in to take a look at a piston.

Actually rebuilding the engine is beyond my abilities and not worth it for my rusty ass car, ... Even my DD.

All I've been doing is regular maintenance and just keeping it going.

I've kinda lost interest in the car. It just feels like she's dying.
It's kinda too bad.

but.. but... you have all the diagrams to help you upkeep/rebuild a new p5

So many diagrams, feel like you secretly have the mazda blueprints hidden away and are building more protege5s secretly. This "unbuild" thread is a ruse to throw us

The only special diagrams I have are the wiring diagrams.

I bought the wiring diagram manual because the download is missing a whole bunch of pages.

I got really good at finding info in the service manual download.

I know the service manual better than a priest knows the Bible. Lol

I have never worked on the internals of an engine and I don't have the skills needed. Plus I'm a slob and engine rebuilding needs the cleanliness of an operating room. Lol

The engine on my DD is running perfectly. It's the body that's rotting.

I'm playing with the idea of getting a clean P5 maybe with a blown engine and doing a swap.
I'm pretty sure I could pull off an engine swap.

It might take me a month but I'd get it done. Lol

I'm pretty sure that I can get another 5 years out of my car, and I really don't want to let go of it.
I love the car and don't even want something new.
And I really don't want to try to learn everything about another car.

Still super handy knowledge to have

I think I'm going to tear the transmission off my parts car this year and take it apart.

It's got all kinds of neat stuff in there that I wanna take a look at.

I want to see how the synchromesh gears operate.

I've got the SST to get the transmission off. Lol

There ya go, the ultimate fix-it-all tool....The Hammer. I feel you on the slob part, I'm terrible about keeping things clean when I work on them. I definitely cant do a rebuild on my own but like you I feel a swap is feasible

I've really got to clean up my "storage unit"... Lol

I've got some gently used rotors for sale if anyone wants them.
I'm sure they'll polish up real nice. Lol
