manual swap questions

:
2002 mazda protege5
Just bought a 2002 auto p5, and I'm planning to do a manual swap at the beginning of the summer. I build SCCA cars so difficulty isn't an issue. Neither is money. Please don't respond by saying "sell it and buy a stick", you'll just be wasting both of our time. I've used the search function on this forum (which sucks) and not found the answers I need, which is why I'm making a new post.

Now, for the questions. What cars/years can I get the actual trans from? does a manual from a 1.8 protege work with a 2.0? how about a 626? I have no problem finding these at the junk yard, but there aren't 2.0 proteges in my area very often. I can get a pedal box and shifter from a junk yard, and I'll buy axles, flywheel, clutch and master cylinder new. Once i source everything else, ill send my ecu to get flashed with an mp3 tune, so the only thing i really need is the trans itself.

1993 * 1997 Mazda 626 4cyl Transmission / 1993 * 1997 Ford Probe

This has been discussed countless times but here's some info I have stored.

From what I remember reading, it's best to have the donor car right there with you so you can get all the little parts and pieces off it that you didn't think of.
Switches, connectors, nuts, bolts, etc. etc...

Waiting for and finding a manual P5 might save you a lot of aggravation.

Hey guys,

Ive just bought a 84 gaz coupe. Its a freekin minter but its auto. First thing i need to do is swap this thing to a manual. Can someone show me where i can find how to do this or give me a list of stuff i will need etc.

Thanks Ben

If this is what you've got then we might not be much help to you.

There could be a whole bunch of differences between your car and ours.

There is a bunch of old threads that cover a swap for our car and there might be some general info you could use.

Your best bet might be to get a manual transmission parts car to do a swap with.

I have a nice junkyard by me, I would get all the miscellaneous stuff there, probably off of the same car I get the trans from.
