    deterrent from what?
Modifying my vehicle with legally purchased parts?

What are we truly trying to deter people from doing with this law? Breaking emission laws? We already have mobile smog check points for that.

As for emission testing from some who just dont understand how the testing works. So let me explain a tiny bit...there are two ways to get required emission tested in Ca one is through a shop licence to emission test and another is a California only emission test center. As an independent you are RESPONSIBLE and held ACCOUNTABLE if you pass by way of a visual inspection any vehicle that does not meet TO THE LETTER all the emission requirements. That means first time caught is warning second a fine the third the tech gets fines and suspended from doing testing and the shop is fined the next time I believe now it goes into misdemeanors? Like you could go to jail! So its simple if you come and I am doing a visual and you don't have all your CARB stickers and if I look them up and they do show ALL the parts that are included you fail. Go see a CA only emission center. Good Luck with that! If you have anything questionable to me even a CARB sticker and I dont feel comfortable signing off on the visual YOU FAIL go to CA only emission center for inspection and testing. The days of slipping the tech to pass you illegal engine and parts are pretty much gone. You see the state of CA air resources board sends people out to check shops making sure that the vehicle they are testing and logged into the state is the actual vehicle being inspected and tested.

I just want to be CLEAR I hate so many of the laws here and most have to do with my cars. You have no idea! This is NOTHING new for me as it dates back having to do with cars starting in the 80's. I can't tell you how many parts I had to discontinue selling because CA was my largest customer base. The latest which I wont go into but my friends automotive service related shop was re-categorized and can no longer as per CA law do DYNO testing. I also will not be paying to reinstate my emission testing licence this time when it expires.
Well, considering Chris and a few others of us here are pilots, we may know a thing or two about airports, planes, and noise, but please carry on since you*ve already let it be known to us all that you*re the only expert here on everything discussed...

Also, just because we don*t live in Cali doesn*t mean we don*t have a law similar to this one, or even the same. Hell, there*s been a 95db exhaust and stereo law here for god knows how long, even a some racing events, you just don*t see it enforced hardly ever, and I know that won*t be the case with Cali...Who the heck doesn*t know about CARB, it*s plaquered on every single aftermarket part I buy, and its affected all of our CX-5s, and stopped one from coming here for the most part...

YOU MUST LIVE IN CALI TO KNOW ABOUT CARB, YOU MUST LIVE IN CALI TO KNOW ABOUT CARB. GOT IT!

    Emission that...

It's a learning experience on perspective alone for me to see how others feel based on their geographic region/lifestyles. Back to rehashing old topics and AA/ACP issues I guess .
Yea, the thread title screamed politics being a law and all...LOL

Don*t like it, stay the hell out...

Well...yes, but if the law is derived from the perceived state of lawmaking in California (hence the rant), it is somewhat tied.

I'll let the mods/admins sort that out if it's a problem. Chris is a mod, so got that partly answered.

EDIT: And to be clear I am not against noise ordinances, but it sounds like the effect of this particular law is reaching beyond that, hence why you have a couple very pissed off people in here.

Nelson, that law is about noise. CaliAirResourcesBoard deals with air pollution.

Commercial pilots for the most part would know what I said about noise level regarding airports.

Soooooo.... because I have been around a while on this planet and have made a nice living in the auto industry for over 40 years have shown on this forum to maybe actually do things myself that's gives you the right to be a complete asshole by calling me the kindergarten term know-it-all! I know a lot but not all LOL The conversation was mostly about CA law and sure other states have their own laws but my responses had to do with responding and contributing about the CA laws.

It's worthwhile to discuss the law and anything about it.

But when someone start uses terms like "socialist" and "communist", they're talking about social/governmental systems. THAT's what has no place on this board.

It's very similar to the confusion so many people have distinguishing between "weather" and "climate"... and how politics gets into THAT.

A deferent from people driving around with loud exhaust systems. Don't know if it also impacts emissions.

    90
4 times as loud as 70 dB. Likely damage in 8 hour exposure.

The fact is, perceived noise doubles for each 3db.

    95db is about 256 times louder than 70db, not 4 times. That's 2^8.

I guess that's something both of you didn't know about noise. Just for the record.

I know it is, thought that was self explanatory when I mentioned 95 decibels. I*m not the one that brought up CArB, the self-proclaimed know-it-all only expert here, Grendel, did...

Just for the record, I didn*t even comment nor did I quote what he said, so don*t tell me what I know and don*t know...

It normally does here because there are no emissions, so most of those loud exhaust are also catless...

I guess I just find it funny how someone says *like all the experts here* numerous times and then goes on a long rant about what they do is correct, and everyone else here are dummies, or have no idea what they*re talking about. We get it, you*re an expert pilot, gear head, audiophile, and whatever else you ram down our throats next...The rest of us don*t have a prayers chance in Hell to know wtf we*re talking about, even in the least bit...

So yes, I am that asshole that*s an asshole to another asshole, so be it...
