I thought this was going to be about emissions. It's more about modified exhaust systems that are more than 95 dbl. Hell, I'm for it. Less of these kids driving round in 1998 Honda Civics with fart can mufflers that are loud as hell.

Very much for the better. Any law that illegalises raising exhaust noise by one decibel on anything other than a race track is fine by me. I*d support it with very strong penalties and can*t wait for it to come to the UK.

Agreed. Last month around 2am some "street racers" woke me up with how loud their cars were, and there have definitely been the occasional motorcycle.

As for the UK, I for one would not wish any more laws than are already on the books for you Brits!

    Certainly not.
My SIL had a 6 cyl merc petrol that sounded great on full acceleration, it had a switch or something that he could switch on to increase volume.

It sounded sweet not like the boy racer with their pathetic engines with horrible sounding exhaust notes, all noise and no speed.

Probably an electric cutout plumbed into the exhaust piping, somewhere between the catalytic converter and the muffler(s). Usually when the cutout is open, the majority of the exhaust flows through the cutout, giving you a "straight-pipe" sound. When it's closed, the exhaust flows as it normally would through the mufflers.

It*s not just the noise. Very often when they mod these exhausts, the cut out the converters which means they are polluting more than they should. No chance of catching them now, there*s only a handful of traffic cops in each county.
