Creak/groan liftgate

Have developed a annoying creak/groan from right side of liftgate when opening/closing. Any suggestions as to where to lube and what type of lube to use ?

With the hatch fully open, I wipe the chrome shaft of the lift supports very clean, and then place a drop of silicone oil, or even engine oil on the chrome shaft and o-ring where it meets the black nitrogen lift body. Then lift and lower the hatch several times fully in order to distribute the lubrication, and verify noise is gone.

Ditto^^^, except I use vasolene petroleum jelly on the shaft.
