Just my MAZDA project stuff

As a disclaimer I make NO claims to anything I engineer and design that I share on this thread. It is only one members DIY project and nothing more. If there are similarities with other works it may only be by coincidence and not meant as coping another designs. I do ask that unless someone has made what I picture and have tested using tools or equipment capable of showing information and results that we all keep this thread as intend for entertainment only and not technical. Thank you.

Well not that I look recently but at least last summer no vendor offered a Throttle body spacer direct application for my 2.5 Skyactive engine and at the time it was a royal PIA to try to confirm any other spacer available that might fit from even our forums vendors CS and JBR to which I have talked to both of them many times regarding this and few other projects.
I needed a spacer primarily for my water /meth system and also to have an extra threaded port to monitor another area of IAT's. Oh and one more item to mount but I will save that for another time to talk about.
So I also wanted to clean up my TB and thought I would check out what was already available performance applicated for my 2018 2.5 SA engine. However with again no luck finding any vendor offering one I purchased a recycled TB and dissembled it and begun porting enlarging the TB which included making a custom new and very complicated throttle plate. I installed it and the engine fired right up and idled perfect. The ECU acted like nothing had been changed. I also did a base line and a repeat DYNO test before and after I installed it. I won't say that I was jumping up and down but my effort was not neutral by any means, just nothing to really mention.
Here are a couple of pictures of the TB spacer progress. Almost done just need to round up the corners and do some cosmetic cleaning for appearance sake and it will be ready to install. Oh for the sharper and observant members I won't be using the stock intake system and designed my own. ;)

Enjoy the pictures.

When I can find my file on both these projects I will post more pictures.

These are only a quick measurement to see more about how much can be safely machined on the stock casting.

I really hate the storage area in front of my MAZDA. Nothing seems to fit correctly and my cell phone rattles around. Not to mention if I use the *input plugs I hate the cable anywhere near my shifter and the console. I fly and have always liked gauges so this area seemed to be a perfect place to custom make a gauge panel. Don't pre-judge the project until you see the completion.

The other gauge slot will be a Cobalt Transmission Temperature gauge with multiple senders for the transmission cooler I am adding to my MAZDA.

*I did an upgrade or custom unit for them. Pictures later when I can find them.

so cool. whats the diameter you end up with compared to TB stock?
Thank you.

Well that is a hard one to answer. Most TB have several area's and not just one that gets changed. The unfortunate part from vendor that supply larger TB is they find the largest measurement to talk about or advertise. It is really more about or the question should be ."what was the percentage of flow increase over a stock TB"?. And that I don't know yet and will explain later. Gotta go to work right now..

Trying not to be technical here is a short explanation why I dont give out size numbers.
I build BWD's for a few distributors and they also ask me about the size of the bore instead of the flow increases comparing a stock intake part vs a ported or modified for increase flow. Simple pressure sampling at the air intake or air exhaust tunnels taking the observed numbers and simple basic math to get the estimated flow percentages comparing a the baseline stock to modified within about 1-2 % accuracy when I have tested using the shops actual flow bench. The flow bench designed for heads is a PIA to set up for other things. So it is easier to do it with a pressure Meter.

I have not tested my TB for my MAZDA yet.

The Meter I use for measure air pressure.

Nice and neat and sorta factory looking sorta?? I now have extra USB ports a conventional charging port and a power activation switch for my rear window camera. There are also my sub-amplifier control and a master stereo sound switch.

generally i change my cabin filter at least every 2 months but with the CA Paradise fire just up the road from me My cabin filter needed to be changed twice in one month. So I invested in a K&N Cabin Filter. I should have done this a year ago.

I have this *RB muffler that I have not finished adding my wrap and a couple other things. I got it because the specification for CFM are exceed the 2.5 and it will not raise the sound level very much from the stock muffler. The sound was an important factor in me choosing this because i have spent hundreds of hours now installing sound dreading materiel all over my MAZDA.
I will at some point do another DYNO test to check what the results are from doing the muffler install. I did a base line at 500 miles and again at 5k and 12k which I determined was the break in of the new engine and the most out put with output any changes it would have. Along with with a DYNO test I also did a full weight check with a full tank of gas and also a 4 corner weighing for future reference of any suspension changes I may make?

I always like sharing pictures of some of my DIY home projects because they look so bad during the beginning stages makes me look like a DIY "RICER" modder.
So in these pictures most of the basic gauge wiring was done. Really it was just attaching connectors and installing the convoluted wire protection. I have not yet cut the finish plate out yet and like to do all the fitting on the template.

When the new gauge mount is finished the console will be dissembled to re-upholster the red/brown with Panther Black Leather and closed cell firm padding unlike the thin Mazda padding used throughout most Mazda's.

I never liked this color combo MAZDA had, BLACK and cream or white color interior trims and head liner. What were they thinking? hahahaha!

A fan of good projects here, sir! For more gauges, you might wanna check http://ortizcustompods.com/mazda.html

Thanks good info for others. I talked to them. They want to waaaaay much f$$$$$ or what I can do myself and maybe better? (conceit lol ) f. I build my own gauge pillar pods for almost anything

I choose to build a panel in the console area. for a transmission temperature gauge that will have a dual sender to be able to switch from 1-4 different temperature sensors. And a D-Pic so I can see exactly what the MAZDA will do with any upgrades I might do to the suspension in the future. Plus the D-Pic is like a little light show at night. LOL Gotta have my "BLING"!
