Does the cowl need to be removed to replace the battery?

I was looking in the engine bay after my test drive yesterday and noticed that part of the battery is tucked under the cowl. Does the cowl need to be removed in order to swap out the battery?

Not on factory OEM battery. I believe factory OEM battery carries 1-year free replacement warranty.
