2013 - Gear Indicator other than the dash?

The bulb for the gear display at the base of the automatic shifter died in my 2013 a while ago and I took a while to get it replaced. It was definitely annoying not seeing the gear display when its fpdark outside. Now that the bulb is working again, is there supposed to be some indication of what gear youre in when the lights are on? I dont remember if there was one before the bulb died. I know its also on the dash, but when you shift from park to reverse or drive youre not necessarily looking at the dash.
