    CarPlay and Android Auto dongles

Has anyone purchased and successfully installed one of those $60 ish USB dongles that claim you can use CarPlay or Android Auto? I've seen them on eBay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/5V-USB-Smart-Link-Apple-Carplay-Dongle-Box-For-Android-IOS-DVD-Radio-Player-USA/332793713324?fits=Year%3A2017%7CModel%3ACX-5%7CMake%3AMazda&hash=item4d7c0d12ac:g:2F8AAOSwDjFbj4l2:rk:1f:0

That's not going to work. Says you need to install an app in the Android navigation on the head unit.

The cables and usb hub was very easy. I did it today in 45 minutes (after the 45 minutes last night for the firmware). I was surprised at how easy it was. I needed a 10MM socket and a screwdriver. The rest was done with my hands.

The part looks to be a video streaming adapter, basically turning a car with DVD screen into a way to cast an app on a bigger screen.

It will not give you AA or Carplay, and it likely won't work at all with Mazda.

Do it the right way, and get the kit from Mazda.

Buy this, it has all the parts you need: https://www.prioritymazdaparts.com/o...-kit-00008fz34
Carefully ready through the first three posts on this forum. It has all the information you need for the firmware upgrade: https://mazda3revolution.com/forums/...ml#post2405671
Watch these videos, they will guide you through the install process:

Other than that, the only other tools you need is a philips head, 10mm socket, and plastic stick tool (I used a butter knife in its place).

You don't need to be tech-savvy to do this upgrade, but you do need to be good at following instructions, especially during the firmware upgrade process.

Just looked at the Mazda parts link. Says:

    "NOT FOR SALE
    No Longer Available For Purchase"

I've been told by the local dealership that they're not to be doing this. Wonder if this dealer got busted.

    Just found this:

Why are these official kits so dang expensive? $180 for $7 worth of cables. Geez, it's like the Monster Cable mark up from years ago.

Better than what Mazda Canada posted about how much this should cost: $443! That's insane. We were promised an update and instead we have to pay to (Car)play?

Oh.. Did Mazda Canada say the update was coming for free? My sales guy said that the update will be available at a cost, not for free; at least for the CX-5 GT anyways.
