Replacing a sideview mirror cap on a '17/'18 CX-5

Hi All,

I did my best to review old threads and I don't think there's one specifically on this. Sorry in advance if I missed one!

The plastic cap on my passenger side-view mirror got scraped pretty badly. I already ordered an OEM painted replacement (https://www.realmazdaparts.com/oem-parts/mazda-mirror-cover-tk48691n1a2m/?c=Zz1ib2R5JnM9b3V0c2lkZS1taXJyb3JzJmk9NTMzMTU5MDUmcj02JmE9bWF6ZGEmbz1jeC01Jnk9MjAxNyZ0PWdyYW5kLXRvdXJpbmcmZT0yLTVsLWw0LWdhcw%3D%3D) and I'm trying to figure out the safest/simplest way to pop the current one off and put the new one on when it gets delivered. The most detailed guide I've been able to find is this video of someone doing it for a '16 Mazda 3, which involves pulling off the mirror to access the clips holding the cap on:

What I'm wondering is:

1) Does this same technique work on a 2017 CX-5? I saw some references to having to heat the mirror before attempting but is the rest of the procedure the same?

2) Is there a way to remove the cap without popping the mirror off? Sounds like there's a reasonable amount of risk of the mirror breaking if I try to pop it off so I'd love to be able to avoid that if at all possible.

Any tips or links to guides/videos would be appreciated!!

Thanks.
