Touch up paint pen

I have a 2016 black Cx5. I just purchased the Mazda genuine touch up paint pen to cover all the chips. I also have issues with the horrible paint chipping easily. My question is regarding the touch up process. Do I need to purchase a separate clear coat to cover the newly filled in chips?

I found this article which gives pretty good instructions on how to repair chips of varying severity.

It recommends a clear coat over the repair.

You also might want to consider Dr. Colorchip. Quite a few people on this forum have had better results with this than the OEM pens.
