Cx-5 2017 ac

Hi, I bought my cx-5 last year and I used the ac for te first time last week.
Is it me or the Ac on this car is absolutely rubbish. Even at max it doesnt do a good job at all.
I went to the dealer and they said that everything is ok.

After 10-15 minutes with the ac on at max, you should be freezing.

Thank you

Put a digital meat thermometer in the center vent and report the reading. Let the A/C run for a couple minutes first. If its between 46 - 50 then the A/C is working properly.

When you first start the car recirculate should be off so outside air is drawn in, once the cabin cools turn recirculate on so now cabin air is being pulled into the A/C and recycled out.

If it is the climate control version, turn off ECO mode and should function as intended

A lot of the A/Cs cooling power also comes from HOW MUCH refrigerant it can hold. Should be over 1 LB, not sure on specs. Had a Vette that had maybe 2.5 LBS? Man, that car would freeze you out even in 100F heat.

2014 Mazda3's were problematic because they had under 1 LB, just not enough to keep the car cool in high heat.

You could have a leak. Have the dealer do a leak test.

Also tinting the windows and moonroof helps A LOT to reject solar heat gain and reject UV rays. I tinted mine

My 2014 AC worked plenty well for years, but last summer noticed it struggling a bit, and this summer it has definitely been under-performing in 85+ degree days. I will be taking it in to get looked at soon.

My 2017 works great in 90+ - too cold. Make sure recirculate is on too. Depending on how hot the car is though, it could take time to cool all that sun baked plastic down. No getting away from physics.

No issuers with my AC here in FL. It is not RUBBISH or do you say that to anything you don't understand or doesn't work to your liking? Ed

Mine works fine, just as good as the one I had in the 2015 Mazda 6

EDIT: I have a 2018 model which is no different climate control wise

Next time I go to the dealer, I will ask to borrow another 2017 to compare.

Even a random passenger asked me if the ac was on last time. She didnt find it as cold as it should.

As per my above comment, have you made sure ECO mode is off (uhm)

ECO mode does reduce cooling/heating performance.

If it’s set on auto it should select full AC and recirc as required. Ignore the assurances that it’s not normal. How can they say that. Comparing it with another is a good idea.

Love the AC in my 16. Ice cold. Can't imagine it's worse in the new one.

One thing should be noted from OP's first post - "I bought my cx-5 last year and I used the ac for te first time last week."

Could be that since the system was stagnant for such a long time, maybe the gas/hose/mechanics are not working properly.

I remember years ago being told to turn on the A/C at least once a month to let it run so the hoses, gas, compressor etc operate as they should if the A/C unit is not used during normal driving during that month.

He said the dealer said it was fine though?!?! That's the strange part.

Sorry, I dont have the dual zone ac.

OK. Thanks for confirming

My guess then is since it wasn't used until now, either there is an issue with the gas or the hoses/compressor.

Get a second opinion from either another dealer or an air conditioning specialist.
