New IIHS mid size suv crash ratings

The other day the IIHS released new results on the passenger side small overlap crash test and I thought it was weird that the cx9 wasn't included.

Did a tiny bit of digging and found that the cx9 was tested, maybe just not in this round of testing. But the cx9 looks like it performed very well, earning a good rating in the passenger small overlap, placing it with the top performers of this latest report.

The only thing keeping the cx9 away from a "top safety pick +" rating is a "good" rating on headlight performance, where the cx9 with the optional headlights only got "acceptable".

Interesting, thanks for the info. Does anyone know what bulbs each trim comes equipped with from the factory (brand, not size)?

There are 2 version of headlights for the cx9. Lower trims get fixed led projectors and the higher trims get curve adaptive led projectors that aim into the turn.

I think the issue here is that the distance illuminated is not satisfactory enough to meet the "good" criteria.

The iihs just started headlight testing a few years ago, and almost nobody got good scores. The fact that the cx-9 didn't get a good score isn't really surprising because it was designed before the test. Mazda will fix it in a year or so I imagine.
