Hi, I am in the middle of installing a led scuff plate but I could not find where to plug in the red/black power plug. I've took apart most of the panel underneath the steering wheel at this point. It came with instructions...but in a foreign language (Chinese?).

The instruction in Chinese only says you can hook up red(+) and black(-) wires from LED door sill plate, to wires under A-pillar or B-pillar to under-door courtesy lights (not available for US CX-5); or to a tap point of fuse box for interior dome light.

You can read that?
If so, right on.

I appreciate the help. So thanks for taking the time to translate for me! I guess I am out of luck trying to use that plug as I have the Canadian CX-5. I've read that another owner from 2010 had success tapping in their map light. I tried opening it before but felt like something was about to break. Any instruction on opening the map lights? Anyways, I will give it another go tomorrow. If that failed then I will try tapping in the "ROOM" fuse box. :(

I'd trace the power wire, before feeding to the light switch, of the front map lights or center dome lights based on color and color strip, down to fuse area and tap the wire. This should make door sill plate LED in sync with map/dome lights but bypass those light switches.

I manage to pop the map light open. These wire are the one I am looking for now at the foot fuse box area with no success. Even if I found it, I wouldn't know which color wire to tap in to.

It would be nice to get it dimming naturally like when you close the door. I am searching for wire diagram. On the old Mazda it was black>green, red>purple. The instruction that came with this doesn't resemble the actual wire I received but rather more similar with this user below.

I’m also interested in this too. Please keep us posted on the project..

I plan on doing a Youtube install video when or if I manage to install it properly. I want the video to be as simple and non invasive installation as possible. My car is a mess right now. With some more input and help from the community, I know the video will be done faster.

If you close the door, you would never see it dim as the door covers the plate, right? So why mess with dimming?

You're right. My thinking was if I forgot to close the door securely it will time out and power down after a couple of minute instead of draining the battery dead. But at this point I just want it working. I've tested the led with an external power supply. Everything is good. I will be just installing them while I continue to figure out which wire to tap.

Attached is the illumination light schematic for 2018 CX-5. Find the RBCM in the rear panel on the driver side. You can tap red ("+") / black ("-") wires of your sill-plate LEDs to light-blue(L) ("+"; connector 1F) / brown(BR) ("-"; connector 1B) wires out of RBCM. Or trace light-blue and brown wires from front or rear map light connector which should lead to RBCM. You should be able to tap these 2 wires at any convenience place in between. Of course make sure to use the fuse which is supposed to come with your kit to protect your expensive RBCM.

Not sure how you're able to get the diagram but right now I have a big man crush on you. I tried the red2bue and black2brown but there is a constant draw of about 11.25V. I was playing around and took a gamble on purple instead of brown. I see it flickering and no smokes. It's a good sign. It flows with the map light and turn off slowly when I closed the door. Another good sign. I think I pick the winner. I will do a hard wire tomorrow once I pick up some wires to complete this. Stay tuned. Thanks again yrwei52.

You're right, do red-to-light-blue and black-to-brown wire-tap would give you constant 12V. Based on schematic I'd do red-to-light-blue and black-to-white so that the sill plate LEDs can be totally in sync with map lights including the off/door/on switch functions. White wire is routed from front map lights to rear map lights along the left roof. It seems the easiest way to tap it is at the front map light connector. Here's the picture you took on front map light connector, 0918-901 in schematic and you can see the white wire there on pin G. Tap the black wire to violet (purple) wire with only door-open signal is fine too as you can only see the sill plate when the door is open anyway. But you can't turn them off or constantly on like the map lights.

Thanks for the suggestion but I already tap violet. I can not think of a time where I would need the sill powered on when I won't be able to see it. Got it all wired up. I bought blue/red wire. I connected them in reverse (red on red) and had a hell of a time trying to figure out what I did wrong. This turns out to be a good learning experience. Will share some video of the end result soon and my thought on the whole process.

Glad everything has worked out for you! Looking forward to seeing more pictures and video.

Wells its done. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWcmz9kvPGA

I uploaded it last night and spent my Canada Day long weekend working on it. I fell bad about leaving this off for so long. I had a new job and got sick along the way. My voice is still gone. This has been on my mind for some times. Thanks to yrwei52 for your contribution. Hope you all can enjoy it and I plan on making more videos relating to CX-5 on my channel.
