    Fortunately there's been no instances of this happening but I could imagine this would be a pretty catastrophic way to lose a motor.

    Diesel runaway can happen to any diesel engine, its nothing new.

    true but surprised it's still an issue with newer diesels.
    In the 'old days', the PCM's in cars weren't all that smart but now I'd think with proper programming it wouldn't be a problem.

    luckily mazda is fixing it before it becomes a problem.
