Fast Mazda

This video actually proves that they are. That car is a total turd on the "speed spectrum". 0-60 in 6.6 seconds? So...it's almost as fast as a Toyota Sequoia of the same year (2008)?

Some fact checking here. The video was published by the BBC in Feb 2008 but the cars featured have 55 in the number plate which means they were registered in the second half of 2005, so we are looking at 2005 cars and not 2008.

Ovtuning is already working on tuning for it too. Honestly with sticky tires and dsc off you can probably pull a better 0-60. You know dsc is going to pull power thanks to the wrong wheel drivetrain on a HO motor.

You're right. It's more like a 1989 Ford taurus SHO. Groundbreaking for 2005, no doubt.

Keep moving the goalposts... You can prove that ANY car in ANY part of the world at ANY given time is faster than the others at ANY price point. Xtrailmans example was for the UK market anyway as only UK market cars were compared in the review. Very few UK market cars would have V8 engines etc. Even if available in the UK market that Ford Taurus in 1989 would have been more like 80,000 rather than $50,000 due to the exchange rate, personal import fees, VAT and modifications for UK regulations.

Okay, ultimately what I'm saying is 0-60 in 6.6 seconds is not fast. It's not even quick. It's sluggish AF for a car.

Sluggish. LOL
Your bar is set to high bro.
They're talking about normal cars.

Sorry, I remain unmoved. It's slow, no-matter what year.

Unob was of the opinion speed does not matter in CUV segment. Its a practical soccer mom car.

Then the news that 17 was a second slower than 16 and unob went
ROFL slowpoke CX5 - lolololololol (nana)(nana)(nana)(nana)(breakn)(breakn)(breakn)(breakn)

So take his comments with a grain of salt. Like his 20 mpg and then finally revealing he drove on 2 miles one way (boom03)

The FD did 0-60 in 5.5 seconds back in 1992. Mazda made some fast turbocharged cars but the OP posted the wrong video of the wrong car. They've only been slow since the MS3 was killed off, and even that was kind of a dog compared to the STi and EVO VIII. Rotary power was Mazda's golden hour.

Take a trip to New Zealand or Puerto Rico and then tell us there are no fast turbocharged Mazdas.

I love you Kaps. Not in a bad, send me to the hospital way, but I love your posts.

He's got a point though. That Pacifica minivan absolutely smokes a CX-5, which should never happen to any Mazda. I don't think Unobtanium is hating on Mazda, I think he might be discouraged by how slow they've become.

The FD was almost as fast as a Viper and cornered way better. The Mazdaspeed Protege was the quickest FWD car Road and Track ever tested (at the time) through the slalom...the MS3 was a cool little sleeper among giant EVO spoilers and STi scoops, the Miata brought back a complete segment of automobiles.

Now all we get is 3 nearly identical CUVs that look great but don't really do anything that well.

Fair enough.

But at the end of the day, it's still a minivan that I doubt has the same "fun to drive" dynamics and certainly lacks the good looks of a CX-5.

A Miata is technically slow, but everything I read says it doesn't feel slow driving.

I don't know, I see the point, but at the same time don't. Raw HP 0-60 numbers aren't the end all be all.

I pulled 27mpg on my awd 2.5 over about 150mi highway the other day both ways. Going between 70-75 and occasional 85-100 to get away from packs annoying drivers who cant maintain a constant speed constantly passing each other. That's with a 93 ecu tune, 20"x8.5 wheels with new 255/45 tires and added weight in the form of chassis bars and hitch.
Also negative rake right now (front higher than rear).

To be fair, that's more a problem with CUV's and people's odd preference of them over better (hatchback and wagon) cars on this continent than a problem with Mazda or their CUV's. People want taller, heavier, AWD vehicles that get 30+MPG like the FWD cars they used to buy and...

And short of being 'capable' at 0-60 (which most vehicles are these days) I could give a rats fart what 0-60 time my car has unless I'm driving a dedicated sports car (which CUV's are most certainly not). Ride, handling, engagement, mid range etc are all FAR more important IMO.

Definitely agree there about the CX-5's looks and the 0-60 time not meaning much. That's why I consider a Miata fast. Take one around your local roadcourse and be amazed at the balance that little 140HP beast possesses. Those things grip like a 14 year old on pornhub. (rofl2)

EDIT:
This turbocharged Mazda does OK...

Crikey I thought any car that put a smile on Clarksons face must have been decent back a few years.
Is the 2.5T Mazda 6 quicker?
