Removing Crankshaft?

So I see I have to remove the transmission for this... But can it be done while in the vehicle?

I ran it with low oil and the previous oil filter had a hole in it... Not sure what caused it. But there are fragments in the oil passage and can't get it out...

Thinking of just pulling crankshaft and have it machined or replace. Found one used for $100.

But need to know if I need to remove engine... And if so from top or bottom?

Need to buy an engine hoist or support brace.

Thoughts or opinions regarding this matter.

please, any input on this would be great...

also I was offered a used crank for $100 vs getting my crankshaft cut at around $200 maybe more...

please any input would be greatly appreciated.

I did buy the engine hoist. now wondering if I take it out from the top or drop the engine...

I don’t think anyone here has tackled this to give you any meanful input. There are many more Mazda3 owners who tear into their cars.

Below has what you are asking for and I’d seriously consider a 2.5 Durtec instead. There are a few detailed 2.3MZR to 2.5 Durtec threads out there.
