After any drive more than 15-20 minutes my car always smells hot, but the temp gauge is only near the midline.

I wasn't sure if this is just due to the turbo, breaking in, or what.

Is this common?

For the first few drives of the CX9 after purchasing, the car definitely gives off a "burning off" smell.

We smelled it during our test drive and the sales person said it's just the engine burning off it's protective/manufacturing oil layer on the engine.

It went away after a while and it's most likely part of the breaking in process.

My first long drive o had smoke coming out of the vents and a real stink from the burning off.

It went away after that 1st drive

How many miles on it so far? If it's brand spanking new, then yes, as others are saying it's normal burning smell. Should be gone after like 50 miles or so.
