2017~2024 Unknown artist Android

Hi, me and my son both have our own Androids. When I'm connected and play music through Spotify MZD displays artist and song name. For my son, not! It just says Unknown artist, unknown song.
There is also no album cover for any of us.

What's the problem?

Is one plugged in and one Bluetooth? I find album art to generally only work on usb. Artist and title should work for both though.

Both are connected through Bluetooth...

What phones? What OS on each phone?
8.0 broke something. 8.1 fixed it. Does Googe Play work on both?
