Clearing previous owner's phone passcode (2008 CX-9 Touring)

I have searched this question and found solutions that don't quite fit my year and model. We bought a used 2008 CX-9 Touring with Nav. We want to clear a previous owner's phone passcode to pair our phones via Bluetooth. Pushing the "Phone" button triggers a request for the passcode, which we don't know (nor does the second-owner seller, unfortunately), and we haven't been able to get past that point. We've guessed at the obvious password possibilities unsuccessfully. Online solutions for other years or models that seemed promising seem to require knobs and buttons we don't have (due to on-screen controls). For instance, we can't push the "volume (power) and tune (audio) knobs at the same time" because our tune function uses an up-down toggle switch, not a knob (and pushing the "up" or the "down" toggle instead did not work). The manual seems to suggest that we can say "Setup" when asked for the passcode, but that is not working, either. Has anyone found a way to clear a previous passcode on a 2008 CX-9 Touring with an audio screen and navigation? Thanks for all suggestions!
